Introduction of a newbie

Hi,

My name is Tynan and found out about this course after doing internet searches on Kundalini.  I'm 26 and from the Toronto area.  (anybody else here from Toronto?)

Anyhow, my Kundalini was stirred through my association with Adi Da Samraj who in turn was Kundalini awakened by Swami Muktananda.  It was initially very intense but has much subdued over the years.  Now it only makes grosser or more physical movements every once in a while.

Adi Da is a very strong Guru in the traidition of Bahkti Yoga (devotion to the Guru as God)  who is actually more focused on us receiving "Him" through the descending energy coming through the crown chakra and down into the body.  He actually discouraged us from moving energies up the spine intentionally saying that the downward energy would in time reverse and circulate back up on its own.

I pulled back from and finally have left Adi Da as my Guru because I found I could not trust him absolutly with my instincts no matter how much I tried.  All the same I have great love and respect for him.

Finding out about MAS, I feel like I am being moved from the Father force (emphasized with Adi Da) to the Mother force (emphasized with MAS).  But this time I am more empowered because MAS does not require the guru-devotee relationship.  WIch I've come to see can be limiting.  So I hope this rounds out my Spiritual awareness/education.

I think this analogy applies to the Guru vs Guide debate that has been raging in me ever since leaving Adi Da:
If you give a man a fish he will be back the next day for more (and more and more), but if you teach a man how to fish for himself then you may not see him again for a long time.  But you have empowered and liberated him.

Heya Scott E,

I'm wondering if you have found anything in the Toronto area that would have people on a similar path.  Like meditation groups, devotional music, chanting (Kirtan), yoga etc . . that isn't overly denominational.  Because A, it would be helpful to the practice to keep good company like that and B, it would be nice to meet girls our age who give a shit about exploring spiritual matters.

Regards,
DT

Yes, that is an excellent analogy! I may borrow it... :) Welcome!

Why not start a Kundalini Support group? You do not need credentials to start a support group, just a place to meet and a way to get the word out. If you decide to do it let me know and I'll advertise it on my website.

It would be cool to have FST study groups in cities all over the world, eh?

I am wondering... I set up the site assuming most people would want their participation to be confidential. Now I am wondering, would y'all like some place where you can share pix and profiles to get to know each other and find out who is local to you? Participation would be optional and voluntary.

 What do ya think?

That is an interesting idea to consider about starting a support group here in Toronto.  I'm far too busy with school at the moment and want to work more with Kundalini first.  But maybe in the future.

As for the sharing of pics and profiles.  I would enjoy that.  I'm always curious about who else is taking this course.  Potentially this whole message board could be converted to one that supports graphics and profiles.  THere are lots of free-to-use templates and hosts available for this sort of password protected forum.

I went to a Yoga class where the teacher was very good. It wasn't much of a group thing, more of class time.

There is this place in Brampton, by my house called the Universal Brotherhood Ashram. Seems like a new age church or something. I have no intentions of going there myself.

Why not! It might be very interesting to start up a group in this area. Tynan?

Having that area on the site I think would be a wonderful idea! I would participate.
