Files to iPod (iTunes)?

I just bought an iPod for mp3-files and thought it could handle the Real Player files, or that they could be converted (this IS the year of 2005 isn%rsquot it?), so that I could bring them with me and listen to them when I am out of office. But that turned out to be impossible. Has anybody found any solution to this problem?

  Well, that is a great idea! I did a web search on "convert ram to mp3" and found about a dozen programs that will do that, but I have not tested any of them yet.
 Originally the "audio only" links were supposed to be a different format, lower bandwidth and smaller but my ex biz partner wimped on that and just made an audio only window that uses the same realplayer files. Making them into mp3 would be great, but I have no idea when I would have time to do so, I am so overwhelmed with work already!

I recognize the %rdquooverwhelmed with work%rdquo situation. And I certainly would not expect you to solve my data problems too. As for now I have only been testing a few converters. And the only one that actually processed the file %ndash Easy RM to MP3 Convertor %ndash seems only to produce an extremely short file that iTunes cannot handle and considers as empty. If I would eventually manage to get the files converted I will of course mail them to you.

  Percyval has worked out how to do it, but he does not have the strength to convert them all.

i think the smaller file 96kbps (2.32mb) sounds as good as a 192kbps file
which is twice as large (4.64mb)...

is this file quality and format what you have in mind?

it was pretty simple to make by recording using a shareware program (Wave Repair) as i ran the lesson on your CD... then i just converted it to mp3 with freeware (db poweramp)

I'll do it.  Have already talked about doing it on the help list. Just need a CD to start working on it. I do sound work every day so it'll be an easy task. May take some time due to that we are moving and stuff right now though.

Need to add something

I've downloaded both files, and also need to mention that it sounds almost exactly the same. Even did a frequency analysis. The thing is, that the original file from the site/CD is already compressed in real media, which is destructive, meaning there's a loss of quality.  So when you convert a low kps ra file to mp3 it doesn't really matter if it's 192 or 96 kps.  In fact, the Real media file is probably encoded in a lower setting than that even.

If you -really- want a good quality on the file, it'd be best to use the original wave file that was used to make the real media file. Then I can make you a crisp sounding file at only 96 or 112 kps. I got all the tools and facilities to do it and the enthusiasm to go with it.
