Octet

Hi everybody, my name is Octet, I live in Switzerland and I am 19 years old;
I am currently in my freshman year in college for a computer science major.

A great deal of events led me to discover Kundalini so the following may be a bit long, be warned: ;)

It all started a few years ago, after my confirmation in the catholic church; until then I had always followed the church's teachings without much thought. Maybe it was to please my parents, maybe it was because it was part of my life since early childhood, nevertheless one thing was certain: it was the result of automatic behavior. Ironically enough, it was after my confirmation (christian sacrament where you are supposed to receive the Holy Ghost to strengthen your faith) that I started to question all these beliefs. The dogmas, the heavy conservationism and it's obsession with a earthly life made of suffering did not make much sense to me and it was not long until I proudly proclaimed myself as an atheist. However once the initial enthusiasm of this revelation faded away, I could not help but feel that something was missing; an inner yearning that no external object could satisfy...
It was the enneagram of personality that made me rediscover spirituality and it completely changed the way I saw myself; it showed how many of my behaviors were only motivated by fear and made me realize that there was more to us than simple ego. This in turn led to an interest in psychology and I was soon reading everything I could find about Jung; his view of the unconscious fascinated me, in particular the anima/animus archetype. It was in his writings that I found the first reference to Kundalini Yoga. The Internet was rich with information about the serpent energy, but unfortunately there was a general trend in these websites explaining that without a teacher it was a dangerous and hazardous discipline, moreover the testimonials of the Kundalini Syndrome frightened me a bit and so I decided to postpone the matter to another time.

I soon started my first semester of college but being unable to manage my high stress levels, I was unable to do my last exam due to a sudden illness that knocked me out; I guess it was my body's way of saying stop. My sister, seeing that I was in very bad shape, wanted to take me to a naturopath/kinesiologist/acupuncturist/chiropractor that had helped her with the same issues. At first, I must admit I was a bit reluctant because I did not held alternative medecine in high regard, but after a quick demonstration muscle strength testing I was curious enough to try it out. I only went there three times and it has already helped much more than I think it could, my opinion was completely unfounded. But it was last session that was the most intriguing. He started by telling me that one of my main problems was that I intellectualized the world around me too much and that I lived in my head; following his metaphor, I was like a plant that had been unrooted, I could still receive the sun's light, but without the support from earth, I would soon wither. He then proceeded with the muscle strength testing, but this time, instead of pushing my arms down he lifted them and I had to resist the ascension, I never had such a weak response. His explanation was that my Kundalini was reversed and that I needed to get grounded, he followed with acupuncture designed for grounding and I am supposed to see him in two weeks.

It was while searching for grounding practices that I stumbled upon kundalini-teacher.com and the FST course seemed like a perfect option for Kundalini Awakening, I could still get the guidance of a teacher and still progress at my own rhythm. I am very grateful that this course is available worldwide.
However I still have some concerns mainly about the reversed Kundalini. Does anyone have any information concerning this issue? Is it dangerous to start the course with a reversed Kundalini? The only information I could find in the internet linked it to anal sex, child abuse and homosexual practices, but I don't think I was ever exposed to any of this.

Thank you all for your warm welcome and I hope this wall of text did not bother you too much  ;D

PS: Happy birthday Ant!

ant

what do you mean be reversed Kundalini
would that be like top down awaking,
the upper chackra's opening first
i do believe that is covered in the course

i say do not be afraid kundalini symptom are often distressing
but seldom dangerous

i could see if you got kundalini psychosis
and thought you could fly or something

Has your acupuncturist had a Kundalini awakening himself?  If not I would throw out any advice he has to give on on it.  Sorry to say but I myself have been mislead and stressed out by many "credible" sources, none of which had a real awakening.   I heard everything from "god will heal you now" to you are possessed.  Not sure what the doctor is going to charge to fix your "reverse" kundalini but I would schedule a Tummo initiation here instead...  They can see the kundalini and tell you what's really going on.  Blessings

I actually never talked to him about Kundalini, he brought it up as an explanation to why he was doing the strength tests the other way around. He never told me that it was something that needed to be cured, in fact I'm seeing him next time for my migraines, not for anything related to Kundalini. In any case the costs of his services are paid by my health insurance, so I have really nothing to lose. But thanks for the heads up, I'll be careful.

I don't know if he meant a top down awakening or that the kundalini was pointing downwards . I'll be sure to ask him next time. But one thing is certain, my lower chakras are much less active than the higher ones...

What does this initiation consist of? Is it done over the Internet?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Blossom

Welcome!  :D

I too would assume that a 'reverse' would be a top-down awakening (http://kundalini-teacher.com/awakening/sawaken.php). Typically, the top chakras start to unfurl (unblock) first and the 'energy' makes its way downward. However, that is not a 'rule'... chakras can start to unblock in different orders as each individuals experience is different.

how is having a reversed awakening a concern? is it because he made it sound unnatural or wrong? what is the underlying fear you're holding onto there?

One thing that you could do is read other forum postings (use the search button), as a lot of your questions may have been covered before.

the initiations spoken of can be found on the k-teacher site. http://kundalini-teacher.com/initiations.php

Some of the things your therapist said seem okay, but lets forget the reverse kundalini and other fear provoking stuff :) Your therapist might be good at what he is doing, but his explanations don't feel completely resonant to me.

To me it looks like top down awakening like the others have already said. Imagine opening your crown chakra like it's a flower, and let the pollen (too much thoughts and karma) out like smoke to ease the opening of your higher chakras. Remember to pace yourself with the lessons to get maximum benefit from this course.

Let us know how you're doing once in a while, okay? You are one of the youngest students here I think.

Octet

That was the first thing I did, but unfortunately I could not find anything having to do with "reverse" kundalini in the old threads. He did not make it sound like it was a problem at all; it was more my Google search about the subject that worried me. I guess I might have a bit overreacted considering the fact that I feel well and don't have any strange symptom. I'll stop worrying and I'll start enjoying the course.

However, I don't think I'm awakened yet as I did not live uncommon events or spiritual experiences.

I won't do more than 2 lessons a week and depending on the content I'll stay more time with it; I don't know if it is an appropriate pacing, but I'll be sure to check any problems I encounter with the tearoom. The initiation might be better when I'll be further along with the lessons.

In any case, thank you all for your support, you definetly made worry less.

Blossom

Okay. :) Try to remember that it's one lesson per week. We have had a few discussions of pacing oneself pop up recently.

I went back to my acupuncturist and I got this "reverse Kundalini" matter all sorted out.
He was not mentioning a top down awakening or anything similar, but it was simply his metaphor to explain
the fact that I was severely ungrounded. I just thought I would let you know  :)
