Just wondering recently about the rising of the kundalini.  
In traditional Hindu system, I was told by a Hindu friend,
celibacy is encouraged as the upward climb of an awakened kundalini,
once arisen, would be thwarted by the "wastage" of spiritual
strength.  It would remain at the lower centres rather than
rise and pierce through the crown chakra.

I have read that there are many people who are K awakened
and have active sexual lives.  What about those who are not?

How do we know how high up the spine the k has arisen?
Is there anything that will have an impact on its rise?
Once awakened, would k ever be dormant again?

Would appreciate views and thoughts from those who
have been here longer and would have had their k awakened.

Celibacy is not an imperative. It origines from inner peace where you make
love with Yourself. When you feel for the first time your own existence
than you will realise the natural state of soul, the natural state of being.
And that natural state is blessing, happines, peace, joy... in on word you can feel it
like a orgasm. Trully, orgasm can be perpetual, and ordinary so called orgasm is
just a shade of really one.
So when your K. is awaken once, and you can "play the game" with K. (actually
I feel K. stream like a touch of Goddess), ordinary orgasm will be boring waste od time.
Just one stream of K. energy from first chakra to crown is reason to be in "celibacy".
I put celibacy in "" `cause you aren`t actually in apstinentation, you make a great love,
a wonderful sex but, instead with human, with Goddess herself.
I call that actions "orgies with Goddess" or "spiritual sex" but when you sometimes
see Goddess in human being, in your lover, spiritual sex will grow in
physical. That will be a really tantric sex, where "two" God/dess have sex.
An ordinary orgasm is K. explosion, too. But the power of bust is pure.
So, my humble advice is: don`t imitate celibacy, it is in correlation with state of mind. Really celibacy is comparative with ordinary orgasm, on a scale of satisfaction, like a good french wine (or croatian dalmatian one ) with awful beer.
If your focus is on ordinary sex, just do it, but give the extasy to Goddess.
She will preciate it.

It is true, that is the traditional way... however, a few hundred years ago when those old books were written the planet's K. fire was not so intense as it is now. People would meditate all their lives without experiencing awakening... whereas, nowadays people wake up all the time, by accident! The energy is more abundant, so such severe "conservation" measures are not so necessary. Even back then, tho, there were people attaining enlightenment through sexual tantra.

 To a certain extent, withholding ejaculation helps to train the energy to go up the spine instead of out your penis, but it is better to ejaculate and meditate in the relaxed glow afterwards than to get stressed out with frustration from denying your body's desires.

 Many people tend to be very "goal oriented" about sex, the goal being orgasm. Grab the porn and/or the vibrator, have a quick wank to take care of the days sexual pressure, and once the orgasm comes they are done. I am not saying you do that, but that kind of behavior will not support your awakening.

 You do not have to change your sexual activities, so much as your attitude about sex. Sex is a gift of Goddess, and if you offer your pleasure as a gift to Goddess, She gives it back, multiplied. Treat sex as sacred, and it will be sacred, and it will enhance your path.

  Set aside orgasm for a while, and go flying on the energy of desire. Feel desire heating up your second chakra, and enjoy it for itself, without needing to do anything about it. Feel how the heat rises like smoke from a fire, spreading through your torso. Postpone ejaculation/orgasm for as long as you can. Stopping when you get close to the edge, cooling off a bit then starting again... thanking Goddess for a body that can feel. Keep doing this, and you will train your body to have multiple orgasms without ejaculating. The pleaure just keeps getting better.

 If you do this, you will find it really brings up the K-fire. Experiment for yourself, to see how different you feel if you make your pleasure a gift to Goddess, or not... if you ejaculate, or not. Get to know your body, and what it wants. Be loving towards yourself.

Sometimes you can feel it, but the best thing is to stop measuring. Ego wants to know. Goddess doesn't judge. Wherever you are, is where you need to be.

 Fact is, most awakenings do not follow a particular model of chakras opening from the bottom up. Like in the grounding, first we open the crown chakra, a little bit, then reach into the Earth and then focus on the Heart, and ask the Heart to awaken the Kundalini at the root. top, bottom, middle, root. Chakras open and reopen and open further as Goddess Wills, depending on where your karmic issues are and in what order they need to be sorted out.

Stop trying to measure yourself against other people... that is an ego game.

It can go appear to go to sleep again sometimes for years, but really it is still working but awareness of the process is not getting into the ego.
