SL is making a major change to their servers and not working too well during the transition, lots of sims going up and down.

You will need to upgrade your SL viewer before you login. I am currently using Phoenix-Firestorm Release v4.4.0.33720 and it seems to be working fine even though its two versions behind current.  Some older third party viewers like Singularity may be completely broken by this server upgrade.

  The upgrade is to the graphical display system so chat will still work fine and for text-only viewers there is no difference.
