Grounding Curiosity

Was wondering if anyone has ever substituted the moon (or any other planetary body) in place of the sun during the grounding exercise...and if so to what effect?

regards,
Pete

I wondered this too, what about mars? Or a can of Coke ... lol..

What, the moon? - I still seem to be a too rationalist guy for this to consider ;D
It actually doesn't seem to be exactly the sun for me either; something more initial/original/airy/spiritual/starry than the earth(who appears in turn more advanced).
Any way, something i can ground on above :)
But this may be impressions due to a rationalist mindset.
Then again i still wouldn't want to be anti-rationalist.

What i find amazing about sun and moon is, the phenomenon of solar eclipse: optical matching of such different kind of shoes like them both; sufficient clue that Goddess Did It!

always curious,

Johannes

I tried in real, sitting on the floor, in a dark room, in the middle of the night.
Sitting in a big light spot in the bright moonlight that came in through the window.
At first I tried to visualize the sun, but this turned out a bit hard, because the moonlight was so dominantly present. The moon took over as a source of the light coming from above and receiving the light sent up through me from below.
I felt good.
While the visualization started "to work", and the feeling of being grounded came over me, I suddenly realized, that actually the light of the moon really is the light of the sun reflected. So in the end it is still a connection to the sun. Still sunlight, cosmic Light anyway.

To my feeling the moon is rather a filter than a substitute: still receiving the original light from the upper source. The filtering may create some interesting patterns of thought and feeling.

The moon unconsciously accompanies our dreams in the night. It creates ebb and high tide.
It influences female fertility. It makes the crop grow.
The moon indeed is a powerful force of nature.
It sometimes makes some people freak out or have occult experiences.
By some, Goddess is called Isis, Moon Goddess.

Best thing to do, I think: Just try it out, do the grounding with the moon in mind, and see how you feel about it. And let us know :-)

But, maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree, please tell me if you think so, I am just a searcher.

cheers
johannes

And take care not to get moonburned! ;-)

Thanks for the responses.  I actually have tried using the moon for grounding before, but the rational mind has been hesitant to fully embrace it because it was taught to me with the sun above...that's why I asked about it here in the tearoom.  The moon seems to make for running a much cooler energy than the sun.  The idea came because the grounding exercise with the sun was making me really hot at times.  Doing it once or twice or 8x per day didn't seem to cause any issues, but rather doing it many times in a row.  Too much hot or cold seems imbalance, so I asked and Goddess provided a change to the visualization.

I've come to a similar conclusion as Johannes that the light of the moon being reflected from the sun.  The yogic understanding is that the lunar and planetary bodies are step down transformers for the sun's energy.  At the same time, these correspond to different channels and organs in the body.  Interestingly, the sun corresponds to pingala nadi and the moon corresponds to the ida nadi...the right and left channels on either side of the central channel.  This seems to explain why using the sun visualization makes things very hot for me at times and why it is progressive for to use the moon at other times.

It's interesting that Juergen mentioned the eclipse.  There is a method of visualization that causes just such an eclipse in the heart.  It seems to result in a very active central channel and an empty mind.  The power of visualization is mind blowing.  Our connection as everything, nature included, is mind blowing and what that really means is as well.

If I understood him, Juergen also mentioned using something more abstract than sun or earth to ground.  I like that idea and have used it to ground on many occasions by just following the breath or even by just moving awareness....which leaves an extraordinarily neutral but grounded feeling, neither hot nor cold.  The grounding action seems to be caused primarily by rooting above and below through the central channel.  Using any images above or below seems to evoke widely varying reactions in the energy body that might be unbalancing if done in large numbers.  So, these days, the exercise is much less substantial in form than it was when it was learned initially.

I don't know if this stuff is off base or not.  I do feel like Goddess has sent me down this line of inquiry and practice as a response to the surrender of these techniques.  In many ways, 'knowledge is bondage' and I have chained myself over and over.  Goddess, it's yours.

Maybe it is because when we you use the sun energy through the moon, it gets filtered and lesss intense, and the earth
crystal respond with less Shakti in comparison when sending sun energy directly to the earth crystal. Maybe it is the
amount of Shakti energy from the earth crystal that makes the body hot (more Shakti = more karma gets cleared = karma clearing = friction = heat).

Thanks Edward.  I'll run it past the DB.  Friction is not the only thing that causes heat.  Tummo fire, adrenal secretions, and digestive fire are a just a few other things and they all feel qualitatively different.

Ask your Divine Beloved what the sun in the grounding represents, in the metaphorical language of the unconscious mind... :)
   .. and the moon...

juergen

Quite often if not most often, Mystress refers to the light above, not explicitly to the sun, in the FST-text. Under any circumstances when using a metaphor i need to be aware of its limitations. I had those irksome sun heat issues too, but it changed to the better as i looked more in the details of the grounding meditations given, e.g.: grounding.

There is talk of relaxation and "sparkling radiant light,
brilliant as the sunrise reflecting off the ocean,
bright like an arc welders torch", but not as hot like an arc welders torch ;D

Or,
"Relax into this imagining till you can feel the sunbeam warming the top of your head, physically or in your imagination." It says till you can feel the sunbeam, not cook your brain under that sunbeam ;D

Then for me it helped to refer more to the cold sparkling light, the sun reflecting on water: you name it, beaver romance ;)
In a way it comes near to Eddie's approach with the sun reflected by the Moon, but then for the sparkling effect i'd prefer the stars to the Moon(with Her busy-peaceful and attractive aspect more related to Gaia).

As a wannabe slave of the big Kungfu Mistress, i suggest that She is aiming to put me in a nice trance with that light(feeling safe), which is confirmed by the above quote from the big Aikidu Mystress(Relax into this imagining..), so i deem myself quite on the safe side.
I also feel this whole axis of polarity as a spectrum of creation where time seems to be mapped into spice :) (and space is short-circuited by the poles). So this gives me a taste of Unity as well.
It  also appears useful to regard the whole grounding as a home game.
Now home is another mis-usable metaphor, when i remind myself of the song-title "home is where the hatred is", which seems so true in some respects,  and of course 'mother'(for instance) can be the motto of billions of nightmares, but we need to render metaphors functional, working for not against us(i also do so with 'feminism' well aware of its withered sex-phobic  manifestations in patriarchal institutions etc). Else we waddle  into the victim trap.
So this is a home game with a curious pounding heart, a real adventure.

Ask your Divine Beloved
:)
Care about surrender then Goddess cares for the rest... Isn't it a strategic use of the limited resources of mind? pacing oneself to be fit for the Goddess Train, or feel homely at home?

Jennifer

Personally, I find the moon VERY energizing and activating.  When the moon is full or close to it, I often sleep much less.  I have meditated on the moon, with results that felt extremely intense, almost like my brain was being radically reprogrammed in some unknown way by the moon energy.  What happened is my eyes started vibrating very rapidly back and forth and I thought wow, that's really interesting and intense, it's not unpleasant but I'm a little put off by the intensity and I don't want to moon-bleach my brain so maybe I will stop this meditation now.  Haven't tried it with the grounding.  Pete, I am curious, will you tell me the visualization method you mention in which the heart is eclipsed?
Namaste,
Jen
