new board format

is there a way we can change the board to a different format? The format that seems to be widespread these days is the phpbb format, for good reasons. I  only bring this up because there are alot of good topics (not just mine haha) that get buried way down the list real quick and I often overlook replies from others because the topic seemed to have died a mile down the page, and I stopped checking. With the phpbb board one can reply to a topic from three months ago, and it can be revived by jumping near the top of the list, or you can set it to let you know of all the new posts, without all the confusion that this one can cause sometimes. Its free too, along with some others, if you are particular (like me) :) What do you think?

You are right, Littlecloud.

I have been confronted with the same problem, and was first quite 'at a loss' with the organisation of boards like this, hell it's not perfect, yeah!

But this problem exists generally, for example with databases, all sorts to organize knowledge and make knowledge transparent, organisation encyclopedias comes also under this.
And after struggling a while to perfect this, i have changed this attitude, i'm tempted to say: surrender it :)

Again i dare to point to a cornerstone of FST, which is  ***c r e a t i v i t y***.

I just (only a very few minutes ago) have intended to answer a post by Mystress(about Ra's resp. Odin's eye) in a form a bit more extensive, however which i can't do within a single day(like i can do this actual reply to you); so i intended to post it later into the actual flow of the forum as a (late) answer.

So to conclude, this is a simple form of a board, with the advantage, of granting more flexibility, creativity and transparency to its users.

By integrating the stuff presented it will also become more perfect, but integration is an art, and i'm not shure if i would like to have too much perfection preinstalled by a new board-system.

Then, admittedly i'm not uptodate with what you mean exactly, and if i were i might change to your side as well :)

By individually integrating the stuff presented, perfection may come at a later stage(for each of us), but integration is an art, and i'm not shure if i would like to have too much perfection preinstalled by a new board-system.

I have thought about it. I liked it that this board is a single page, simple... I find some boards end up with too many topics, it tends to divide a group... but I am finding myself wishing for a separate board for this sort of off topic thing. Tea room is supposed to be a temple. We need a tech room. That was originally handled, elsewhere..

You are right about topics disappearing down the page. The board has never been this busy before! I have realized, as membership increases it gets more and more unworkable. I few weeks ago I thought a "what if" FST had 1000 students. Board suddenly looked old...

So, I have been thinking along the same lines but have not come to any conclusions... was thinking of polling the students, actually.  Via email.

I don't like phpbb, it has a lot of bad reviews.  There is the consideration of logins, most of the other boards would require re-registering. It would also be difficult to find a search engine that would search old and new archives at once. The current archives are one html page per post.. this one is post number 3141. Six years worth.

The update I have been working on, includes some links to past tea room posts, members experiences... It is beyond my knowledge of php as to how I could continue to do that if the board is no longer archived as html files.

I am actually looking at changing quite a few things around, including new member registration.

At the moment I am testing content management systems for the new incarnation of the K-list website. www.kundalini-gateway.org  I want to make the site more interactive, so members can easily add content to some of the sections, like essays, experiences, links, etc. I also want the mailing list to archive to a board which is optionally able to post back to the list... for members who prefer a board.

While I am shopping around though, I am encountering some educational oriented systems that are tempting me to completely change the format of the FST update. Kind of a scary idea to do that, at this point in the process... but it would be a way to integrate things, from registration to board access.

Frankly, I am in a little over my head. No, actually, well over... See the html dinosaur Mystress sinking into the tarpit, blub blub,... my websites are archaic and some have sprung a leak.. the K-Goddess board on domin8rex got hacked, the non functional guestbook is under constant attack from some kind of spam bot, and why am I getting bounce reports from the FST ecard site, of non working addresses sending themselves a viagra spam ecard? How are spammers managing to post to the new K teacher board?

I don't wanna be a webmaster anymore. I just want to write and teach tantra.

 open to ideas..

Some of my friends use the free forumware software found on the website below.  It's actually got a really professional look, a lot of nice features, and seems pretty secure.  I'm not sure how easy it is to transfer 3K+ HTML posts over to another language, but the number is not prohibitive yet = it should just be a lot of cut and paste.

thanks pete.  I've been looking at simplemachines for a few weeks, with an eye to the K-list. Already decided to use it for K-goddess board and maybe the K-teacher board. It has a yabb converter but not a wwwboard converter... FUDforum has a wwwboard converter, and it will archive a list!  Decisions, eh?
 Blessings...
