  Only 4 people attended the August chat, quiet is normal for summertime but I want to encourage more students to come out for them.

  It is more fun and rewarding when more students attend, but we had a blast anyway.
  I don't usually post the chats but I asked the students consent to post this one just to show what can happen in that temple. I respond to questions about FST in the chats, and help students sort individual issues so the group can all learn from them, but I often teach stuff that is not in FST, sometimes teach things I have not written down anywhere, or try out new stuff Goddess has shown me.  The topics of the chats are spontaneous, based on students questions or what I have been up to that week.

  This time a question about shielding became a lesson about the essence of Alchemy that links together ideas from several different lessons in FST.  I might not have taught it quite the same way if there were women in the chat. Men insulting each other is sometimes a sort of male bonding thing that seems a bit strange to women.

  Keep in mind, this is about 2.5 hours of chat, you can probably read it over in about 10 minutes but you will get more out of it if you read it very slowly and try out everything I tell the students to do, yourself as if you were there.

  Some notes on alchemy:

   Most people, when they think of alchemy, think of medieval scientists messing with chemistry in a hopeless effort to change one element, lead, into another element, gold, and frequently blowing themselves up. 

  That is the outer face of Alchemy. True Alchemy is what you learned in the chat. To understand why, you have to examine the time it was born from.

  In European medieval times, the Catholic Church had a total monopoly on spirituality, and anybody who was not a priest or accredited Church official, and tried to teach anything not based on the Bible, was likely to be sent to the Inquisition and be burnt as a heretic.

  At the same time, the Crusades were going on, thousands of Europeans headed off to what was then called Persia for conquest. The Persian knowledge of medicine, chemistry, architecture and astronomy made the Europeans look like superstitious hairy barbarians. The ones who had a brain were eager to learn, and they brought the sciences back with them when they returned home.

  This knowledge was a threat to the Church, unless it could be used to build bigger churches.  Masonic societies sprang up, outwardly they were trade unions,  all about profiting by keeping the mysteries of Persian architecture a tightly guarded secret but actually they were spiritual organizations hidden from the church.

  The Church sent Galileo the inquisition because the Church taught that the sun orbits around the flat Earth and the Earth as God's magnificent creation is the center of the universe, but science proved that was wrong, won the trials and so the Church had to make room for science, and drew clear lines of territory. The Church in charge of all things spiritual and Science could continue to examine the material.
  Doctors could practice healing but midwives and witches had to be burnt. This in time led to the separation of Church and State that most of the west knows today.

  So, in order to avoid the inquisition, the mysticism of Alchemy was couched in the language of science. Those who understood it, belonged to secret societies that often pretended to be about Architecture.  (Masonic) They kept a laboratory for show, and learned a few science experiments in case anybody asked, but mostly locked the door and used the lab as a private place to meditate.
  The ones who didn't get it, messed about with chemistry, tried to make the philosophers stone, frequently blew themselves up and along the way invented the science we call Chemistry. 

   To see how this worked, consider that the transmuted insults felt like fire, and the transmuted compliments felt like water. The four spiritual elements are earth, air, fire, and water and they are still with us today, in the suits of the tarot cards, in the watchtowers and archangels, and expressed as the compass directions. The concepts are surprisingly universal, the same in paths as disparate as Druidry and Feng Shui.

  We know these things are not elements at all, as far as science goes:  they are not on the periodic table of the elements. Fire is not an element, it is a chemical reaction of oxidation. Rust is a kind of slow fire. Water isn't an element, its a compound molecule of two elements: hydrogen and oxygen, H2O.

  To understand modern politics, just realize that the Crusades never ended. The People of the Book (Christianity, Judaism and Muslim religions are all based on the Hebrew Old Testament) are still fighting for control of the Holy Lands, for its sacred sites and its treasures. These days the treasure is petroleum, before that it was gold, silk and spices. George Bush is a Christian...

  The essential difference between the three religions is that the Christians believe the Messiah was Jesus, the Moslems believe the Prophet was Mohammed, and the Jews think the guy they want, has not shown up yet. They are very patient people.

  The Christians find it a little easier to ally with the Jews because the Jews were never big on the whole "slaughter the infidels" thing unless God told them to in a territorial dispute, (Jericho) and they had a history of getting conquered themselves, by the Egyptians and then the Romans (and then the Nazis) so they had to learn to chill.  (Except when it comes to Palestinians.)  The Christians mostly abandoned religious execution in favour of tolerance and conversion, (because Science got more powerful than they could have guessed) while some sects of Muslims are still quite into it ... but the Crusades, never really ended and so the middle east has been a battleground of one sort or another, for thousands of years. 

  The upward pointing triangle of the FST logo, is the Alchemical symbol for fire.

Hi MadM3rlin they're usually the second Tuesday of every month. An email is usually sent out the day before as well.
