Day before yesterday, when we were walking the dog, my 11 years old daughter told me what she was good at. Laughing she told me she was good at lying. I answered, that lying was not something she should do and that she definitely should not lie to me, as I was able to read her mind. Then she proposed a test with playing cards. I said that as far as I knew I was only good at feeling other people's feelings and their true intentions with what they did, that this came to me naturally, but not always, and that I probably was not able to do it at will. I also told her that as it didn't feel really fair to read the minds of others, I didn't want to try. However, she insisted and I agreed to the card test as a funny game. The result was amazing (I just hope she wasn't lying! ;) ). Statistically I could be expected to answer correctly if the card was black or red in 50 % of the cases. The figures are only approximate, but I did better than 90 percent, maybe even 95 %. When it came to the colours (spades, harts etc), where I could be expected to be right in about 25 % of the cases, I performed almost equally well; maybe 80 or even 85 %. When it came to the numbers I had a problem. I couldn't se more than about half of the cards, and I was unable to perceive the figures, so I had to guess. I could be expected to be correct in 1/52 or about 2 % of the cases. I did much better than that. I was correct in maybe 10 % of the cases. But in probably considerably more than 50 % of the cases I was really close. E.g. as I didn't see more than half of the card, I couldn't see if the card was six or seven of the spades, so I took a guess at 6 and it turned out to be seven. When I was wrong, I most often knew it before; I didn't get any picture from her but only my own thoughts instead or I got several pictures and did not know which one was the correct one and took a guess. Later, my daughter tried to do the same thing. It didn't work at all. Another funny thing is that she says she does not have the ability to see pictures in her head, and I am not really good at that either. Still, what I got was pictures.
