Title: Variants of Kegel
Post by: Gustaf on Feb 16, 2006, 03:58:57 PM
As written in previous posts, I've practiced moolbandh for quite some time. The kegel lesson was a wonderful reminder of these practices, and it seems to be basically the same thing. :) Only now practicing it with a different understanding and in a completely new context. Wonderful!

This post is mostly reflective, so anyone feel free to jump in. Having a yogic background I love talking about techniques.

When I learned moolbandha, I also learned two closely related ones, Ashwini mudra (contracting and releasing the anal sphincter) and Vajroli mudra (the muscles at the penis root), and  Moolbandha, the muscles in the middle at the perineal floor.  In the beginning all three muscle groups are worked at the same time, then I learned to isolate them...

I'm curious how they relate to variants of the kegel excercises, which seem to come in different forms.

Also they have different effects!  At least for me.  For example, the perineal muscle group in the middle definitely push at the root chakra and send waves of shakti upwards.  Ashwini (the penis root muscles) goes inwards and seems to trigger a different center (around the place where the vedic location of the sacral chakra is) It also sends waves of shakti upwards, but it also affects the frontal passage. Ashwini seems to only affect the spinal passage and barely touch the frontal passage.

I've been laying in bed in the evenings and mornings just after waking up experimenting with them and feeling their effects.

Another thing I've discovered is a great difference if I pump slowly or powerfully. :) Karmayogi once taught me that I can contract the muscles -very- subtly, and a totally different effect is felt.. Also holding the muscles in place is wonderful. It's like turning on a water tap of shakti and have her roam around!

Heh!  Goddess provides. I never really had any idea what I'd use these things for when I first learned them, and now they are suddenly wonderful tools for karmic clearing.. Funny, the yogis never told me about any karmic clearing..  It seems to show very quickly where blockages are because the energy comes so quickly.

Namaste!
